Camper

Campaign Video – Edit, Scanography & Assisting Creative

product background

Striving for innovation and sustainability, Camper’s Roku shoe consists of six modular parts,

designed to be assembled, disassembled, repaired, and recycled, while offering unique customization possibilities.

Named after the Japanese word for 'six,' Roku draws inspiration from the essence and aesthetic of Japanese Wabi Philosophy.

creative brief

The concept centered around highlighting the shoe's key characteristics, in particular its modularity.

It features two voices from within the fashion industry discussing how the Roku shoe symbolizes creativity, adaptability, and environmental consciousness.

To emphasize this design, the idea was to implement animated collages, illustrating how the modular components can be combined to create a unique Roku.

approach

Inspired by the product’s modular nature, I created a concept that would accentuate the shoe’s features and align with the core message.

This involved creating high-resolution scanography of all six parts of the Roku shoe in their color variants and unique textures.

The technique not only allowed to capture the fine details of each element – from the outsole to the cord and laces –

but also provide a more even and two-dimentional image with a level of tactility, that traditional photography can’t replicate,

presenting the craftsmanship and material quality, while playing on the idea of the modularity.

creative research & foundation

My proposal was delivered through a detailed internal brief, which included mood and aesthetic research of the Japanese Wabi philosophy.

Wabi celebrates the beauty of organic imperfection, simplicity, and the natural world.

It embraces roughness, subtle irregularities, and the passage of time, while also honoring understated elegance and a minimalist approach to form.

This sensibility seamlessly aligned with the scanography approach, where the shoe’s raw materials and unique details became an intentional and integral part of the visual language.

At the same time, the scans removed distractions, emphasizing pure form, clarity, and precision, mirroring Wabi’s balance of spontaneity and refinement.

Furthermore, deconstructivist fashion, with its focus on breaking down traditional forms, reinforced the concept.

Just as deconstructivism challenges conventional beauty by fragmenting garments and exposing their inner structures,

the scans dissected the shoe, piece by piece, revealing its tactile components before reassembling them in new configurations

— reflecting both its modularity and embracing the raw beauty that Wabi values.
